    Nitrogen Separation Technology

    The main components of air is nitrogen and oxygen,account for 87% and 21% respectively,it can be said air is the inexhaustible source for nitrogen and oxygen generation.how to separate the air to geneate nitrogen economically is a long-term research subject.

    In traditional,industrial air separation is use of cryogenic separation method,cool the air below -150℃, and then achieve separation by cryogenic distillation method. The method has the disadvantages of high energy consumption, long process, long start-up process and high requirement of equipment maintenance. Therefore, it has been challenged by new separation methods such as PSA and membrane separation.

     

    Membrane separation
    Membrance separation is use the principle of osmosis,when nitrogen and oxygen is adsorbed on the surface of polymer membrance,the gas would diffuse through polyer membrance then disorbed since the concentration gradient from the two sides of polymer membrance.oxygen diffusion rate is faster than nitrogen due to oxygen molecular is smaller,thus,when gas get through the polymer membrance,nitrogen enriched at one side and oxygen enriched at another side.nitrogen and oxygen enriched air could obtain continuously by membrance separation.
    At present,the selectivity coefficient of oxygen and nitrogen separation is only about 3.5 and the permeability coefficient is smaller.the concentration for nitrogen only 95~99% and  for oxygen only from 30% to 40%.Membrance separation generally at the operation conditions of room temperature and pressure of 0.1~0.5 x 106Pa.
    Pressure Swing Adsorption Separation
    It is used of carbon molecular sieve selective adsorption charactoristic for gas components separation.oxygen molecular is smaller than nitrogen molecular and it is easy adsorbed by carbon molecular sieve,therefore nitroge gas enriched.
